Functionality: Jendon Minerals
Informative Site: Mineralogy Database
Diverse Site: John Betts Fine Minerals
Best Graphics: Micromineral.org

About the Awards

Only one site per year receives the prestigious "Best Site" award. Four other sites are selected to receive each of the runner up awards each year. The winner choosing to fly the Best Site Award banner receives free advertisement through MineralCollecting.org.

Functionality -- Reserved for sites about rocks and minerals with excellent navigation, web presence consistency, and a pleasant, easy to comprehend look and layout

Informative -- Reserved for sites where information is key. Knowledge is front and foremost, and very detailed and precise. You're a better rockhound because of this site.

Diversity -- Reserved for sites with richly varying mineralogy or geology content that is always fresh and up-to-date and seems perpetually useful to others.

Pizzazz! -- Reserved for sites that have a good visually attuned and graphically enhanced presentation that doesn't distract from the browsing experience too much.

Best Site -- A site worthy of all four awards. The content is rich, detailed and diverse with varying topics. Graphics and layout add to the appeal of the site without sacrificing easy navigation and good layout consistency. This site is educational, entertaining and interactive and should be a place that you visit often.

About Voting

One committee totaling 5 people are randomly selected from MineralCollecting.org's mail list to vote on each years top sites. Each selected list member will rank all of the nominated sites from 1 to 100 in each of the four categories, diversity, pizzazz, functionality, and informational content. All voter totals are added together for each category. The nominee who's combined four category total is the highest will receive this year's BEST SITE award. The remaining nominees who score the highest for the remaining four categories will win the remaining category awards, respectively, and the category awards will be chosen in the order listed above. Each winner is thus disqualified from winning any remaining categories or in other words, you can't win 'em all. Sorry.

The Voting Committee

How do you get on the voting committee? Simple! Join the MineralCollecting.org mail list. We hold a random drawing annually for a total of five committee members. Each member participating in the voting process receives a $3 credit toward purchases at MineralCollecting.com
